How to calculate the battery life of 48V, 60V and 72V electric vehicles? The bigger the battery, the farther it goes? Finally got it

Dec. 14, 2023

We are all familiar with electric vehicles. Regardless of whether the family has a car or does not have a car, there will always be an electric vehicle. Have you paid attention to the battery life of electric vehicles?When consumers buy electric cars, stores will say, "My car can run 100 kilometers without charging. Faced with these very

attractive advertising slogans, some consumers who don't understand cars think they can really ride 100 kilometers, but after

actually riding, But that‘s not the case. So, how to calculate the cruising range of electric vehicles?

How to calculate the battery life of 48V, 60V and 72V electric vehicles? The bigger the battery, the farther it goes? Finally got it

Even if the calculation is not required to be so precise, it is good to make a rough estimate. You will no longer be fooled

by all kinds of "heart-breaking lies" when buying a car! Today, I will show you how to calculate the battery life of an electric vehicle.

The two most direct factors that affect the battery life of an electric vehicle are the size of the battery and the motor.

 Only by knowing these two items can we estimate the battery life of the electric vehicle.

Generally, most electric vehicle battery specifications on the market are 48V, 60V, and 72V. These represent the battery voltage.

If you want to know the battery capacity, voltage alone is not enough. Generally, the battery will say 48V12Ah or 48V20Ah.

Time represents the electric vehicle current. When the voltage is constant, the greater the current, the stronger the power,

and the higher the battery capacity.

The specific battery capacity calculation method is:

Battery storage capacity = rated voltage x rated current

48V20Ah battery specification battery capacity 960W;

60V20Ah battery specification battery capacity 1200W;

72V32An battery specifications battery capacity 2304W

Battery capacity represents the number of watts of electric vehicle power reserve, which determines the upper limit of

driving range. In addition, there is also motor power, because power determines the power and speed of electric vehicles.

Generally, 48V battery manufacturers on the market are equipped with 350W or 400W motors, with a maximum driving speed of around 25KM; 60V battery manufacturers

are equipped with 800W motors, with a maximum speed of around 40KM; 72V battery manufacturers are equipped with 1000W motors, with a maximum speed of around 45KM.

Knowing the battery capacity and motor power, you can calculate how long an electric vehicle can run at its top speed:

Electric vehicle driving time = (battery capacity wattage/motor power) total mileage = time * speed

If it is 48V20Ah and the motor is 400W, it can travel for 2.74 hours and the cruising range is 60 kilometers;

If it is 60V20Ah and the motor is 800W, it can travel for 1.5 hours and the cruising range is 60 kilometers;

If it is 72V32Ah and the motor is 1000W, it can travel for 2.3 hours and the cruising range is 103.5 kilometers;

Of course, this is still the theoretical battery life of electric vehicles. The real battery life is also related to the efficiency

of converting electric energy into kinetic energy. With a good motor brand, the loss of electric energy into kinetic energy

 is less and the efficiency is higher.

How to choose a car with a long range when buying an electric car?

1. The battery specifications must meet the requirements. Generally, for a car with a driving range of more than 60 kilometers,

the battery must be at least 48V20Ah.

2. The motor power should be small. As long as the riding requirements are met, the speeds of 500W and 600W motors are

almost the same. Try to choose a 500W motor for longer battery life.

3. Look at the weight of the electric vehicle. The heavier the electric vehicle, the greater the motor load and the higher the power

consumption. For electric vehicles with the same size battery and motor, the one with the longest range will definitely be the lighter

one.

At the same time, if you want to choose an electric vehicle with a long range, the larger the battery, the longer the range. The larger

 the battery, the higher the power of the motor, which consumes electricity faster. In addition, the increased weight of the electric

vehicle will actually reduce the range.
